From China to the Port of Varna and finally to the customer’s site, GOPET TRANS organized the specialized transportation of a foldable modular home shipped in a standard 40-foot High Cube container.
The Challenge
At first glance, the shipment looks like an ordinary shipping container. It contains a nearly fully finished foldable modular home, manufactured in China and engineered to withstand international ocean transport in its compact form before unfolding into a fully functional home.
During ocean transport, the structure has the standard dimensions of a 40-foot High Cube container – approximately 11.8-12.2 m in length, 2.2-2.4 m in width, and 2.5-2.9 m in height. Once delivered to the Port of Varna and unfolded, its dimensions expand to approximately 11.8 m in length, 6.1-6.5 m in width, and 2.5 m in height, providing a usable living area of 72-77 sq. m.
This transformation – from a compact transport unit shipped from China into a living space comparable to a small apartment or holiday home – is what makes the project a true logistics challenge.
Our Approach
GOPET TRANS managed the entire logistics chain, from ocean freight originating in China to the Port of Varna, followed by inland transportation to the customer’s final destination. Our team coordinated every stage of the operation, including cargo release, inland transportation, unloading, decontainerization.
Unlike standard container deliveries, the objective was not simply to deliver cargo but to ensure the safe arrival of a building ready for installation. This required precise coordination between all parties involved, as every operation-from unloading to preparing the structure for unfolding-had to be executed flawlessly.
Thanks to its compact transport configuration, the house occupies the dimensions of a standard 40-foot High Cube container during transit, yet once unfolded, its usable space nearly triples. This exceptional ratio between transport volume and final functionality is what makes projects like this both fascinating and highly dependent on operational precision.
The Result
The project was successfully completed through seamless coordination across the entire logistics chain, from departure in China to the Port of Varna and onward to the customer’s site. Following delivery, the modular home was ready for unfolding and final installation, demonstrating how carefully planned logistics can support the transportation of unique and high-value cargo.
Projects like this show that what appears to be an ordinary shipping container can, in fact, carry much more than cargo-it can carry a future home. When logistics are executed with precision, the result is not only a successful delivery but also the beginning of a new living space.
